Help keep youth sailing strong in your community!
In 2017, Gorge Junior Sailing is officially became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and formed a board of directors. We are seeking more board members & volunteers who are passionate about maintaining a learn-to-sail program in our community. By expanding our board and volunteer base, program logistics and operations can be divided into smaller sub-committees.
A few of our open positions:
Marketing!
To maintain high enrollment and full classes, GJS needs someone focused on marketing tasks such as:
- Revise/create flyers. Post flyers around town & distribute to schools.
- Advertise Mon Night Open Sail events with free local websites.
- Promote at local events: First Friday, farmers’ market, etc. Coordinate volunteers & staff to help.
- Facebook, social media, website. Post announcements, updates, & event info.
Fundraising!
We depend on money raised from fundraising and donations to cover capital purchases, boat replacements and upgrades, and the maintenance of coach boats, sailboats, and equipment. Maintaining and repairing equipment is a large yearly expense. Instructor payroll and operating costs are covered by tuition. Better fundraising efforts will allow GJS to continue offering very low tuition rates. Keeping classes affordable is a priority!
Grant Writing!
Need someone with a little extra time willing to write and submit grants.
Maintenance!
We need help with sailboat, powerboat, and dock maintenance in the off-season. During summer classes most maintenance duties are handled by paid staff.
- Do you enjoy fiberglass work?
- Have experience working on outboard engines?
- Basic carpentry skills?
- Enjoy boat tinkering?!
- We’d love your help!
We are seeking support from the community to ensure the future of GJS! If you feel that you have gained something from GJS, please consider reaching out to help. gorgejuniorsailing@gmail.com
